At the ABF, we ensure that elderly veterans can access the support they need in later life through both individual grants and funding partner charities. One of the charities we support is Broughton House, which provides accommodation, care and support for elderly veterans who can no longer live independently.

The only veteran care home in the North West, Broughton House is a state-of-the-art, 64-bed Care Village in Salford, complete with a specialist dementia unit and six independent living facilities for the family members of residents.

This year, our grant will support residential and nursing care for 48 veterans over the next 12 months, contributing to the delivery of in-house physiotherapy, chiropody, and wellbeing activities, along with a designated dementia nurse.

As well as providing significant funding for Broughton House itself, we also support some of its residents with individual grants. One of our beneficiaries is Peter, a World War II veteran who has been a resident of Broughton House since 2023.

Karen Miller, Chief Executive, Broughton House, said:

“We are incredibly grateful to the Army Benevolent Fund for awarding Broughton House this generous grant of £120,000. The ABF’s continued support has enabled us to provide the specialist care, comfort and support that our veterans deserve, helping us to make a meaningful difference to their wellbeing and quality of life. Through the ABF’s generosity, we can continue to give back to those who have given so much in service to our country. We are truly thankful for its continued commitment to our veterans and their families.”
