We are delighted to award a £20,000 grant to Horseback towards its Military Wellbeing project for serving and former soldiers.

Supporting the wellbeing of serving and former soldiers is an important area for our charity. Horseback is a Scottish charity which seeks to empower and support soldiers with mental health conditions and life-changing injuries. The charity specialises in equine assisted learning (EAL), which involves interacting with horses to help beneficiaries develop empathy, control their emotions and build self-confidence. A connection with animals and nature is sometimes the first step towards recovery.

Our grant will partly fund the project, which includes a one-week residential element and is expected to help around 13 Army beneficiaries.

Emma Hutchison, CEO and Co-Founder, Horseback, said:

“Support from the Army Benevolent Fund enables us to watch the life-changing experiences that working with the horses and being outdoors brings to our course participants. They learn new coping strategies, develop life skills and resilience, as well as make new friends for life.”

Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer Army Benevolent Fund, added:

Helping soldiers to improve their health and wellbeing goes to the heart of our charity’s mission. Horseback is a recognised leader in equine assisted learning and has been working with the military for over 14 years. We were pleased to award a grant towards its work this year.”
