ABF The Soldiers’ Charity has given a grant to the Gwennili Trust, a charity which provides offshore yacht sailing opportunities for people with disabilities, to help with running costs for the next 12 months.

Established in 1995, the Gwennili Trust has given a taste of offshore sailing to a wide variety of people of all ages, including many serving and retired servicemen and women, with a wide range of disabilities in yachts, one of which was designed and built to take up to 4 wheelchairs.

The 2016 programme includes many one-day sails in the Solent, a variety of cruises from 2 to 10 days (plus a 7 day cruise in the Mediterranean), some racing (Round the Island), and RYA Qualification Courses.

Captain C.W. Williams, OBE RN, Chairman of The Gwennili Trust, said: “The Gwennili Trust is proud of having provided 65 days sailing for serving and retired Army personnel in 2015. The grant from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is greatly welcomed and would be of significant assistance in turning the ambitious programme for 2016 into reality.”
