Hi all my name is Scruffy John murphy.

What does the Cateran Yomp mean to me? The Cateran Yomp for me means so much in terms of day to day life.

I came to the yomp as a broken individual with low self esteem and no confidence. An individual who would prefer his own company to socialise with others. From the first Yomp I met strangers from all over the world that I didn’t expect to be in my life today not just as friends but as far as to say a new family.

With these people in my life I have become the real me again and enjoy life’s adventures with my yomp family and with loads more to come. The Yomp saved me personally helping with my mental health and motivation. It’s not all about reaching the gold but it’s about taking the step of the start line and enjoying the adventure and sharing with others. Please if you see me on the trail stop and say hi as I’ll probably have a cheeky joke or two.

See you all on the trail SJM 🙂

I had the privilege of being the London Marathon ambassador for the Army Benevolent Fund. Supporting on the day was a great experience, I was truly inspired by the runners’ determination and passion. Meeting many at the post-race reception was a highlight, as I had the opportunity to hear firsthand about their incredible experiences. It was a humbling and uplifting day, reaffirming my belief in the power of the fundraising army and the importance of supporting such a worthy cause.

Feeling the energy of the day I realised I wanted to be part of it again so I’m excited to don the charity vest for the seventh time in 2025 to run through the vibrant streets of London. Come join me in making a difference.

Emma, 7-time London Marathon runner

“I’ve had the pleasure of participating in the Cateran Yomp over the last 4 Years and can honestly say, hand on heart it is without doubt one of the best Charity events I have ever had the pleasure of attending. It is always meticulously planned and executed with military precision. The ABF Staff are outstanding with their dedication & enthusiasm which is infectious; no matter what time of day or night you meet these guys at the various check points along the route, they always greet you with a smile & a hearty ‘Well Done’. Keep doing what you’re doing lads ‘n’ lasses of the ABF, you’re quite simply the best!”

Andy Maylett 2022 Yomp Participant

“The reason I run was to support the ABF . I was very fortunate in my service I didn’t have to access any support mechanism such as the ABF.

I have always been keen to support charities like the ABF . I have always striven to support and help in any way I can.

So as long as I am upright and breathing I will support the ABF”.

Sam, 2021 Great North Runner
