On Sunday (10th September), our charity’s fundraising supporters ran the AJ Bell Great North Run, raising an estimated £20,000 to help Army families, soldiers, and veterans.

This year we were delighted that 73 runners turned out to race the 13-mile circuit from Newcastle to South Shields. Thousands of enthusiastic spectators lined the roadside and also saw legendary Olympian Sir Mo Farah run in the event for the very last time, finishing the race in fourth place. The weather was slightly mixed, with blazing sunshine in the morning, and near-apocalyptic thunderstorms in the afternoon!

Lt Col Barney Barnbrook, Regional Director North East and Yorkshire, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, said:

“Our amazing runners really did dig deep to support our work for the Army family, and our hardworking cheering point crew gave their all to make the day an outstanding success.”

The ABF is truly grateful to all of our Great North Runners, and their supporters, for making this event so successful once again this year.

Details about next year’s Great North Run on 8 September 2024 will shortly be available on our website.
