The Army Benevolent Fund is saddened to hear of the death of its former Chief Executive, Major General (Ret’d) Martin Rutledge CB OBE, who led the Army’s national charity with such distinction for over a decade.

Major General (Ret’d) Tim Hyams, Chief Executive of the Army Benevolent Fund, said:

“We at the Army Benevolent Fund are saddened deeply by the death of Martin Rutledge, who served as the Charity’s Chief Executive from February 2012 until November 2021. Martin led the Charity with distinction for those ten years; and, just before retiring, navigated brilliantly the Charity during the pandemic. It has been an honour and a privilege to build on his significant legacy.

“The Board of Trustees and the staff at the Army’s national charity offer deepest condolences to Hetty and Martin’s whole family, and our thoughts are with them at this very sad time.”
