The Army Benevolent Fund is proud to continue its long-standing partnership with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, by awarding a £251,860 grant in support of its vital services for Army personnel, veterans and their families.

This year’s grant will help fund SSAFA’s Casework service, a national network of trained volunteers and staff who provide practical, financial and emotional support to members of the Army community. It also supports the Stepping Stone Home, a secure, female-only refuge for women and children from the Armed Forces community who have experienced domestic abuse.

Described by Anglia Ruskin University as “… a unique and invaluable service”, the Stepping Stone Home supported 165 women and children in the past year. More than 80% of those helped had a connection to the Army. The home remains one of the few dedicated spaces offering tailored, wraparound support to this vulnerable group.

SSAFA’s Casework service is often the first point of contact for those in need, helping to ensure that no soldier, veteran or family member is left behind. The Army Benevolent Fund’s own individual grants programme relies on SSAFA’s casework to assess need and deliver assistance quickly and effectively.

Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer of the Army Benevolent Fund, said:

“SSAFA has long been a trusted ally in supporting our soldiers and their families. Their services offer both compassion and expertise, often at the hardest of times. We are proud to fund work that has a direct and meaningful impact on people’s lives, especially as rising living costs continue to put many under pressure.”
