As the Army’s national charity, the Army Benevolent Fund delivers support to the Army family across the UK and in 51 countries worldwide.
Through our Scottish Grants Programme, we are proud to fund a wide range of charities working across Scotland to improve the lives of soldiers, veterans, and their families.
Below are just a few of the organisations we have supported recently, helping them continue to provide tailored, life-changing support to those who need it most.
Dundee Therapy Gardens
Dundee Therapy Gardens provides specialist horticultural therapy sessions to veterans experiencing loneliness, relationship difficulties, alcohol and substance misuse, and other challenges that affect their mental health.
Our grant of £12,000 will help fund the charity’s core running costs at its garden site in Dudhope Park, Dundee, where veterans take part in a variety of therapeutic horticultural activities and spend time in its green outdoor space.
Erskine
Erskine is the only charity in Scotland delivering care services exclusively to veterans and their spouses, and it is one of the UK’s leading care homes providing on-site specialist support.
Our grant of £150,000 will contribute towards the costs of caring for 105 Army beneficiaries (62 veterans and 43 dependents of veterans) who live at the Erskine home in Bishopton.
Scottish Veterans Residences
Scottish Veterans Residences (SVR) provides supported housing for former members of the UK Armed Forces who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
We were pleased to award a grant of £30,000 to ensure the safety of SVR’s residents by funding the essential replacement of more than 300 designated fire doors at the charity’s multiple-occupancy residences in Edinburgh and Dundee, which currently house a total of 130 homeless veterans.
Children First
We are delighted to form a new partnership with Children First, a well-established children’s charity within the Armed Forces community in Edinburgh.
Our grant of £20,000 will help fund the charity’s Edinburgh Armed Forces Families project in the areas surrounding Dreghorn and Redford Barracks. The support will focus on addressing isolation and emotional distress; and fostering community connections.
