ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and Cateran Yomp Ambassador Micky Yule has been awarded the ‘Points of Light’ Award by Number 10, an award that recognises outstanding individual volunteers who are making a change in their community.

Since his injury Micky has worked tirelessly to inspire other injured servicemen and women, and to give back to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity which helped him following the blast and through the 40 operations he endured. Micky is the driving force behind this year’s Cateran Yomp, an event which saw a record breaking 1000 participants take part in a gruelling military march of up to 54 miles through the Scottish wilderness. This year the event raised over £550,000 for ABF to support soldiers, veterans and their families. Micky also inspires people across the globe as an Invictus power lifter. This September he will be representing Great Britain in the Paralympic Team at Rio de Janeiro.

The challenges he has undertaken to raise money for ABF The Soldier’s Charity are remarkable. He is an inspiration to us all and I’m delighted that his achievements are being recognised by the Prime Minister with this Point of Light award.”
Micky said: “It was such an honour to be the Ambassador for this year’s Cateran Yomp, raising money for The Soldier’s Charity. One of the first questions I asked, was what was the the previous highest entry? I found out it was 650 people, and I then set myself the goal that we could bring 1000 to the 2016 start line. On the day we managed 1053 and I was overcome with pride.
The Soldier’s Charity is close to my heart, helping me from the very beginning of my rehabilitation, and still continues to be here for me, and all the injured servicemen and their families. To be awarded the Point of Light award puts the icing on the cake to a fantastic achievement and is greatly appreciated”
