One of the ABF’s key priorities is to provide soldiers, veterans and their families with the means to live independently. Soldiers and veterans living with a spinal cord injury face barriers to rebuilding their lives after injury, including insufficient financial support, incorrect medical care, limited home adaptations and lack of mental health treatment.
Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) supplies people living with spinal cord injury with the tools, knowledge and confidence they need to manage their condition and live a fulfilled life after sustaining injury. We are pleased to award SIA a grant of £42,000 to ensure that members of the Army family living with a spinal cord injury are provided with the best methods for treatment and access to reintegration services.
Our grant will go towards SIA’s support network of services for people from the Armed Forces. This includes a range of activities, including emotional and psychological support.
Mark Ridler, director of programmes, Spinal Injuries Association, said:
“Thank you so much to ABF for its continued support. This generous donation will play a vital role in enabling us to support even more soldiers and veterans living with life-changing spinal cord injuries, including significant psychological and physical impacts.”
Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer at the Army Benevolent Fund, added:
“As longstanding supporters of SIA, we are proud to provide funding towards its important work with spinal-cord injured veterans. The charity’s efforts not only identify complex needs of soldiers with spinal cord injury, but also take action towards improving their and treatment and rehabilitation options.”
