ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is a long-standing supporter of the Royal Hospital Chelsea and the COVID-19 pandemic has not changed this. Just last week we awarded a £40,000 grant payment towards a new activity centre that will give Chelsea Pensioners better facilities for a range of at-home activities.

Opportunities for exercise and activities have been limited during the pandemic and there has been a focus by the Royal Hospital on maintaining physical health as well as positive mental wellbeing during this time of isolation. Some activities have been able to continue in pop-up spaces, such as the Hospital’s pottery group, but the pandemic has highlighted the need for dedicated hobby, exercise and general function spaces for the Pensioners.

The new activity centre will thus be a much-needed addition to the Royal Hospital’s existing facilities, providing a fit-for-purpose space for Pensioners to take up hobbies, exercise and relax. In light of the current crisis, the Hospital will start development on the site as soon as it is safe to do so.

We are very proud to support the Royal Hospital Chelsea’s new endeavour. Above all, our charity is here for ‘the long haul’ and is committed to supporting veterans from all conflicts to stay active and well.
