The Army Benevolent Fund is delighted and honoured to have been selected as one of the charities for the Telegraph’s Christmas Charity Appeal 2024.

The Appeal will raise much-needed funds to support soldiers, former soldiers, and their families, across our six key areas of need: independent living, elderly care, training and education, mental wellbeing, Army families, and housing. Running for over 100 years, the Appeal has raised over £30 million for various charities. The ABF does not receive direct funding from the Government or the Army; nor do we have service contracts with the NHS or local authorities. We rely on fundraising to allow us to do what we do for our soldiers, former soldiers and their families – which is why the support of the Telegraph’s readers for this year’s Christmas Appeal will be so valued.

Major General (Ret’d) Tim Hyams, Chief Executive, Army Benevolent Fund, says:

“Our support is available for soldiers at the start of their careers and continues for life – long after service is over. There is little doubt that the impact of the current economy will be exacerbating some of the reasons people need our support, such as social isolation, housing, mental well-being, alcohol and drugs related problems, family relationship breakdown and employment-related issues. We are here for soldiers, former soldiers and their families in need now, just as we were 80 years ago – and as we will be for as long as there is a British Army.

“We are delighted to be included in the Telegraph’s Christmas Appeal. The money and awareness raised will enable us to provide essential support for soldiers, former soldiers, and their families, affording them the opportunity to avoid hardship and live with independence and dignity.”
