From regular soldiers and reservists to the youngest children and the oldest veterans, the ABF stands beside the entire Army family in times of hardship and need.
Armed Forces Week is an annual event dedicated to recognising those who serve or have served in the UK Armed Forces. The week, which includes Reserves Day on 25th June, culminates with Armed Forces Day on Saturday 28th June, which many communities mark with local events and activities.
Partnering with serving soldiers and elderly veterans
Ahead of these celebrations, the ABF invited four soldiers from the Ammunition Technical Support Group (ATSG), Royal Logistic Corps, to visit residents supported by Royal Star & Garter (RSG), which has been funded, for many years, by the Army Benevolent Fund.
The four soldiers – WO1 Graham Raath, LCpl Adi Sera Ramasima, LCpl Rhian Hogg and LCpl Steven Harris – visited the RSG home in Solihull, where they met several elderly veterans and learned about their military service. We were delighted that they also shared on film what Armed Forces Day means to them – watch this here.
RSG provides a range of quality care and therapies for veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia in its four homes in England. The ABF’s most recent grant, in February 2025, is contributing towards the RSG’s Wellbeing Programme, which is designed to enhance the physical, emotional, and cognitive health of veterans.
Reflecting on the visit, LCpl Rhian Hogg said: “We wouldn’t be where we are now without our veterans. The people we were speaking to have served in wars; they’re the reason that we have the life we have now. If they hadn’t done what they did to help our country, we would be living in a very different world.”
Shining a light on our ambassadors and staff
During Armed Forces Week, ABF staff and three of our incredible ambassadors have also been on the radio talking about their Army experiences, life since leaving the Army, and the support they have received. We are very grateful to our ambassadors: former soldiers and contestants of Series 2 of The Traitors, Harry Clark and Jonny Holloway, and 007 stunt performer, Andy Torbet, for helping us spread the message about the support the ABF can provide to the whole Army family.
