NGVFA LogoA grant from The Soldiers’ Charity to the NGVFA, whose offices are based in Hull, will help veterans of recent desert conflicts, their families, partners and carers to improve their day-to-day lives by providing the services and support networks they so desperately need.

Maria Rusling, General Manager at the NGVFA, said: “We are very grateful to The Soldiers’ Charity for their ongoing support. This grant allows us to continue to ensure that the veterans and their families have access to our Welfare & Advocacy service, which provides 24-hour support and assistance, with issues such as benefits and war pension claims, housing issues and medical information and advice. More importantly it also provides, not just the veteran but the whole family, a lifeline at times of distress and feelings of isolation.

“Part of the grant was awarded to provide a respite break for a small number of veterans and their families, due to be held in March at Butlins, Skegness. We have found from feedback received from previous respite breaks that this 5-day break is sometimes the only break that the veteran and families have. During these respite breaks they are around other veterans and families, sharing and helping each other with various issues. We have found that this helps improve their health and wellbeing and makes them feel less isolated.”
