Talk and Supper with Nicola Roberts at the Leander Club
Join us for an exclusive look into the life of Lt Col Nicola Roberts as she covers a career in explosives and bomb disposal, from a woman’s perspective.
After 22 years in the Army – including operational tours in Kosovo, Iraq, Northern Ireland, and Afghanistan, and a succession of ammunition and explosives appointments – Nicola Roberts brings a frontline view of a field few ever see up close. She was commissioned into the Royal Logistic Corps and built a career spanning information management, discipline, logistics, leadership training, and innovation, working across complex and high-risk environments. Alongside her operational roles, she gained two in-service Master’s degrees, combining academic rigour with practical military experience to drive improvement and develop people and systems under pressure.
As a bomb disposal operator, she went on to become the first woman to pass the military’s most advanced bomb-disposal course and will take you through the pivotal decisions that led her there: why she chose explosives, what it demanded, and how those choices shaped her career.
She will also offer clear-eyed observations on women in the workplace – what unlocks performance, what gets in the way – and practical ideas for leaders on how to harness different strengths across a team. Drawing on lessons from the battlefield and the test range, and on insights from her new role at AWE Aldermaston, she connects high-stakes engineering with everyday leadership.
