Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day
15 August 1945 – VJ (Victory over Japan) Day meant an end to nearly six years of a war that had cost the lives of millions.
Whilst VE Day marked the end of the war in Europe in May 1945, many thousands of soldiers from across the Commonwealth were still involved in bitter fighting in the Far East. The conclusion of the Far East campaign brought a sense of relief that the War was finally over. Our own history as a charity is deeply connected to VJ Day, as we were forged during the preceding months to ensure that soldiers returning from the Second World War could be taken care of.
Now, as then, we continue to be inspired by the community that we proudly support, and the fortitude shown by so many in the face of life’s challenges. As long as there is a British Army, the Army Benevolent Fund will be here to provide support in times of hardship or need.
