The Army Benevolent Fund is pleased to fund a new partner organisation, Aurora New Dawn, which provides safety, support, advocacy and empowerment to survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence and stalking.
Our grant of £35,000 will go towards the first phase of developing a free confidential helpline, which will complement Aurora’s existing Armed Forces Advocacy service. The helpline will provide service members and their families who have experienced abuse with immediate help and advice about their options, and easily accessible emotional support.
This new helpline will allow the charity to reach more individuals looking for one-off information and advice, catering particularly for those who may not require longer-term, one-to-one support.
Dr Shonagh Dillon, CEO, Aurora New Dawn, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to be launching this service. The helpline and web based facility for will Armed Forces personnel and their family members will be able to speak to us at different times in different ways, whether they are in the UK or deployed abroad. Our partnership with ABF has enabled this much needed resource, which is the first of its kind in the country.”
Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer, Army Benevolent Fund, added:
“Our charity prioritises the wellbeing of vulnerable service members and their families, including those who suffer abuse and domestic violence. We are delighted to provide vital funding to Aurora New Dawn to ensure each and every member of the Army family can receive appropriate guidance and timely advice when needed.”
