The Army Benevolent Fund stand at the forefront of support for the Army family, last year helping 75,000 people in 51 countries across the world. Thanks to your generosity we can help people like Vicky, who needed our help after being medically discharged from the Army after being diagnosed with PTSD in 2019.

Vicky served for 19 years in the Royal Army Medical Corps. As a combat medical technician, she reached the rank of Sergeant and her duties took her to Kosovo, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. However, following her second tour of Afghanistan, she began to, in her own words, self-destruct.

“I enjoyed my service and would not go back and change anything, but it took its toll over the years. I was battling but not getting anywhere.”

Vicky first turned to the welfare office of Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI), a charity we fund, who helped her turn her life around. Then, with the help of a grant from the ABF, she secured a rent advance and deposit on her first home.

Vicky has now moved into RBLI’s village in Aylesford, Kent, with her partner and therapy dog, Dexter. She is enjoying life as a RBLI volunteer, running coffee mornings and walking other veterans’ dogs.

£30 could go towards the cost of counselling to help a soldier battling with a mental illness such as depression, anxiety, or PTSD.
£50 could help fund education and training to help someone that has served their country transition to civilian life and embark on a rewarding new career.
£100 could help towards the cost of adapting a veteran’s home, to enable them to stay living in their own home, safely and with dignity.
