Surrey ABF Annual Speaker’s Dinner with Sir Stephen Lamport
Government, Monarchy & Church: Life in Public Service
Come and join us at our annual Speaker’s Dinner; an entertaining evening with a drinks reception, then an enjoyable lecture by Sir Stephen Lamport on his role as Secretary to HRH The Prince of Wales and in many historically important events of the late 20th Century, including being a Diplomat in the Tehran Embassy during the 1979 Revolution, and working in a senior Foreign Office post during the Falklands War. The Talk will be followed by a delicious two course Buffet Supper.
Sir Stephen Lamport was Secretary to the then Prince of Wales from 1993 to 2002. He joined the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in 1974, serving at the United Nations, in the Tehran Embassy during the 1979 Iran Revolution, as Private Secretary to Douglas Hurd during the Falklands War and 1st Secretary in the Rome Embassy, amongst a number of other senior roles. In 1993, he became Deputy, then Private Secretary to HRH The Prince of Wales, joining him on a number of foreign trips, including in the Royal Yacht Britannia for the hand-over of Hong Kong in 1997. After a short stint in the City with the Royal Bank of Scotland, he became the Receiver General of Westminster Abbey in 2008; in effect the Chief Executive, responsible for the management of the Abbey and for organising major events.
