We are delighted to award a £18,000 grant to the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, to fund its programme of special trips and activities.
Our charity supports partner charities that improve the wellbeing of Armed Forces veterans, especially those who are elderly or disabled. The Taxi Charity for Military Veterans relies on volunteer London black taxi drivers and arranges free trips (for veterans from all conflicts) to the Netherlands and France, for acts of commemoration; and days out to museums, concerts, or social events across the UK. In 2021 it was awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Veterans have said how much they appreciated the “cabbies” who took them to visit the war graves of fallen comrades, while others have praised the charity for helping them to combat loneliness and isolation at home, especially during the recent pandemic.
Our donation will go towards the charity’s 2023 events programme, including World War Two commemoration dinners and other social occasions in the UK, as well as excursions to Normandy, Belgium and Holland.
Brian Heffernan, London licensed cab driver and Chairman of the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, said:
“As a small charity that is wholly reliant on donations, grants and sponsorship to fund and facilitate our work with veterans, we are very grateful for the support of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. This grant will be used towards our programme of trips and activities in this our 75th anniversary year.”
Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, added:
“We are always keen to support charities that focus on the welfare of veterans and make them feel part of our wider Army family. This year we were only too pleased to help fund the Taxi Charity and its loyal group of volunteer London cabbies, whose work is much appreciated across the veteran community.”
About the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans
This year, the charity celebrates its 75th anniversary, a remarkable milestone for a small, niche charity run by enthusiastic volunteers. The charity launched a ‘75 for 75’ fundraising campaign to raise £75,000 in its anniversary year.
