We are pleased to award a £40,000 grant to We Are With You to fund the charity’s Armed Forces Community Specialist Support Service.
We Are With You is a national charity that provides specialist drugs and alcohol treatment services to 100,000+ people every year across England and Scotland. The charity helps Army veterans to recover from substance misuse and provides other mental health-related support.
The Armed Forces Community Specialist Support Service is focused on drugs and alcohol misuse, a problem for some who leave military service. The programme is tailored specifically to veterans’ needs and encompasses one-to-one treatment, peer group support, medical referral and social activities. Last year, We Are With You helped over 500 veterans.
Veterans have said:
“Attending the group has probably kept me out of the criminal justice system.”
“The veterans group has given me my family back.”
Siobhan Peters, Director of Services North & West and for the Armed Forces Community, We Are With You, said:
“The generous grant from ABF the Soldiers’ Charity will enable We Are With You to continue to deliver therapeutic, clinical and social support to members of the Armed Forces community and their families. It will ensure that every veteran we work with is supported by trained Armed Forces Leads, many of whom are veterans themselves, who understand their unique circumstances and the additional issues they face on their road to recovery.”
Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief of Staff at ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, added:
“We Are With You provides a highly impressive drugs and alcohol treatment service to veterans and has an excellent track record in reducing the harm to Army families caused by substance-misuse-related problems. We are proud to support the charity’s specialist work in this area.”
