Today marks the launch of our first ever podcast series: “Conversations.”
The five-episode series, introduced by Lorraine Kelly, explores themes from camaraderie and family life to injury, bereavement and resettlement. Our listeners will hear how life in the British Army has evolved over our 75 years of service – as told by some of the extraordinary people our work has touched.
The first episode features a conversation between Bob Semple and Sarah Adams.
Bob Semple is a veteran of the Royal Engineers. After leaving the Army he became a civilian engineer and his work regularly took him to the Middle East. Bob was working in Yemen in 2014 when he was ambushed and captured by Al-Qaeda.
Sarah Adams’ son James was serving with the 2nd Royal Welsh in Afghanistan when a Taliban bomb exploded under his vehicle. He died, aged 21. In the 10 years that have passed since losing James, Sarah and her family have undertaken countless activities for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, raising tens of thousands of pounds. In 2014, Sarah received the Soldiering On Families Award for her advocacy work.
In the first episode, Bob and Sarah discuss the impact of their ordeals and how they have affected them and their families’ lives.
