ABF The Soldiers’ Charity awarded a grant of £70,000 to Our Wilton for all the work they are doing to help our veterans.
Our Wilton is providing homes for veterans in a vibrant and well-equipped community setting. The Soldiers’ Charity’s grant will help to build these purpose-built homes which should see the first residents moving in during Autumn 2018.
Our Wilton has also planned to build local amenities for the veterans who are living in the flats. These include a community café and an enterprise hub which will support business start-ups as well as training and employment opportunities for both veterans and the wider community. Veterans will also have the chance to set-up and run social enterprises such as grounds maintenance, facilities management and the community cafes with the aim of enhancing community life and serving the local community.
On Friday 29th September, our Director of Grants, Colonel (Ret’d) Barney Haugh CBE, presented Our Wilton with their cheque (pictured below). Barney had a great day meeting with the team and was able to view some of the 44 fantastic flats being built.
Brigadier (Ret’d) Robin Bacon, Chief of Staff, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity adds: “Our Wilton is a great charity which will allow our veterans to feel a part of a community again once they have left the Army. The range of housing they will provide is essential for keeping our veterans safe and happy. Thank you for all the work you are doing!”
